Septic Systems

Whether your home/business has a holding tank or the type of septic system will be determined by the size of your property and the findings of the Certified Soil Evaluation. Below you can find information on commonly installed types of systems.

Conventional Systems

Conventional systems work when soils are sandy, well-drained, and undisturbed. These soil types allow the effluent to be put directly into your natural surroundings with less sand and stone required than a mound system. The effluent will leach through the existing soil to join the water table. Full details can be found at: https://www.epa.gov/septic/types-septic-systems#conventional

Mound Systems

Mound systems are installed when soils do not allow water to penetrate easily, there are shallow bedrock levels or high groundwater levels. This man-made mound is made by building up sand and gravel to allow more distance between the drain lines and existing materials. They require the use of a pump to get effluent out to the drain field. Detailed information can be found at: https://www.epa.gov/septic/types-septic-systems#mound

Holding Tanks

When space is tight or the soil is unsuitable to support a septic system, a holding tank is used. Holding tanks store wastewater until a pumping company removes it.
